Review of Hell or High Water (2016) by Jake C — 15 Oct 2016
Well-paced and truthful to the experience of West Texas, "Hell of High Water" is a testament to desolation, loyalty, family, property, and above all, the mark of all true Westerns, ethical action.
And there are moments of tense action and moments of thoughtful ethical questioning that carry the film, even when some of its other motifs drag into shallower ends of the spectrum. While you may not leave the movie in deep contemplative thought, it's hard to knock a story that equates bank robbers and bank founders, colonial powers with financial institutions.
