Like any good genre film, Hell or High Water offers thrills, strong characters and witty dialogue, but like a great genre picture, it has a thematic richness that adds a complexity to what you are seeing on screen.
The cast, led by the consistently captivating Bridges, are able to carry excellent material and raise it to even greater heights. They don't make them like they used to, many often lament, but David Mackenzie has proven that they still do.
