Review of Hell or High Water (2016) by Dann M — 17 Feb 2017
Entertaining and well-crafted, Hell or High Water is a modern western crime drama. To save their family land from being foreclosed on two brothers go on a bank robbing spree, drawing the attention of the Texas Rangers.
Chris Pine, Ben Foster, and Jeff Bridges lead the cast and deliver strong performances. And the film takes on some very topical issues, such as the mortgage crisis and the cycle of poverty. The robberies and chases are also shot incredibly well, and are intense and suspenseful.
Additionally, the music and cinematography do an excellent job at capturing the look and feel of the American west. Hell or High Water isn't quite as provocative as it thinks it is, but it does address some prevalent social issues.
