Review of Hell or High Water (2016) by David F — 07 Mar 2017
This movie about bank-robbing brothers in the modern, debt-ridden West and the wise-cracking lawmen who hunt them down tries to update the Western formula for today's post-recession America. It only partly succeeds with a few tense heist scenes and a well-thought out sympathy for the little guy getting taken advantage of by the big banks.
It just wasn't pulpy enough instead imbuing the crooks with family values. Somehow, that just doesn't come off well for me.
