Review of Hell or High Water (2016) by Matt C — 12 Nov 2018

I seem to have seen a lot of Mackenzie's back catalogue without identifying with him as a Director and with none of them disappointing but none of them leaving a lasting impression. This is still only a solid effort but it does feel incredibly assured and in a similar way to the excellent '99 Homes' this is very much a film of the current climate and economic uncertainty.

This has excellent characterisation, all of the main characters are well realised. Bridges and Birmingham in particular have a brilliant curmudgeonly cop partnership. It's just a really good potboiler of a thriller and I don't mean that as a backhanded compliment, solid entertainment.
