Decent WW II movie written by the same guy who created the "Combat" series. The story is about a small squad asked to hold a position against superior German forces, but the real interest here is the cast which includes Steve McQueen (as another surly loner), James Coburn, Bobby Darin, Fess Parker, Nick Adams, Harry Guardino and making his motion picture debut as a soldier lost on his way to deliver typewriters, Bob Newhart. Newhart gets to do one of his phone routines as he tries to trick the Germans into thinking they have more men then they do.

Directed by Don Siegel, who delivers an entertaining war film. The film ends abruptly because reportedly they ran out of money to film it.
