Review of Hell Drivers (1957) by Simon T — 23 May 2017
Dated and rather pedestrian drama in which a stolid Stanley Baker joins a road haulage business and finds himself at immediate odds with Red, a fag-clenching Irishman (played by a wildly hammy Patrick McGoohan).
Hilarious undercranked sequences of lorries racing around Buckinghamshire are leavened by good supporting performances from George Murcell, Sean Connery, Sid James, William Hartnell, and an excellent one by Herbert Lom as Baker's roommate and love rival.
