Review of Heights (2013) by Jeremy R — 02 May 2009
"Heights" is one of my favorite kinds of movies: one that is better than it has any right to be. The 'random people come into each other's lives' movie has been done a million time, and this adds nothing new and sometimes stretches believability at time.
However, "Heights" benefits from what most other such movies lack: superb writing, acting, and directing. It's essentially an indendent movie writ large thanks to legendary producer Ismail Merchant who was able to access actors and locations that most producers of this small scale a movie wouldn't have been able to.
What we're left with is a special movie that could've been run-of-the-mill.
