Review of Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001) by Michael O — 30 Jan 2008
This musical about a transsexual punk rocker from East Berlin could earn rave reviews just for its amazing soundtrack, but there's more to it than that. Even if the premise seems as crazy as Hedwig's stage performances, it also deals with classic themes like love, betrayal, and loneliness that anyone can relate to whether they're male, female, or some of both.
John Cameron Mitchell (who also directs) gives an amazing performance as Hedwig, endowing both her wild side and sensitive side with the believability that makes the character and her life story so fascinating.
