Review of Hector and the Search for Happiness (2014) by Stephen L — 15 Aug 2014
Simon Pegg does a fair job of nearly holding together this slightly mawkish jumble of fantasy, reality, and reflection. On the whole it's OK with some genuine moments of fun and insight. As one critic said there are some similarities to 'eat, pray, love': a journey of self discovery. That's where it ends. Whereas 'eat, pray, love' was tedious, self-indulgent claptrap, this film at least offers some humour, some neat animations, and a nostalgic fantasy/memory thread.
Perhaps the oddest thing is the almost real-life range of contrast in Hector's encounters.
For DVD, or maybe if you turn up and the film you really wanted to see was full.
