Review of Hector and the Search for Happiness (2014) by Hector M — 12 Jun 2015
What's wrong with a schmaltzy little fairy tale about finding happiness? The superb cast makes the journey great fun. Even people who have "everything" lack happiness, until they wake up to the many blessings they already have in their lives.
Dark subjects like grinding poverty, spiritual poverty, and early death were things Hector had to see to wake up. We don't have to totally wallow in sorrow to get the point that Hector had First World problems, the most pressing one being solidly between his left ear and his right.
The movie would have been improved by cutting the instantaneously growing up brain scan scene. But how lovely to see Christopher Plummer. Get over yourselves, professional critics. This movie was fun.
