I appreciate what the book was trying to express. On screen it comes across as first world voyeurism.The best part of the movie was his interaction with the drug warlords and this simply should not be.
In the end, this movie was uninspiring and surely the pretentiousness married to obtuseness did not make most happy but tragically left a feeling of banality in the viewer. The main actor has done some funny, entertaining movies but seems wrongly cast here.
I believe this must be one of the worst years for quality movies.
