Hector, unlike the rest of us who have visited 50/100+ countries (insert your chosen feel-good comment to compare with Facebook friends), has visited no countries outside of England, probably not even outside W1.
That's the point - not that we should feel better/superior than the character. It's a storybook model, hence the Christopher Plummer voiceover at the start and end. One of the best told stories, despite the Hallmark card bullet points, of the year.
