A definite trip. The animation may not be great by today's CG-spoiled standards, and the stories may not flow together quite as smoothy as we'd like, but really, are they supposed to?
Fill the bong and watch it thru the haze, or not, as you see fit. Heavy Metal broke the rules and reshaped them so that animation was never the same after. When you watch Adult Swim, and take for granted what you see there now, remember that Heavy Metal, Ralph Bakshi's animated films, and others like them made it possible.
