Review of Heavy Metal (1981) by Tamatai N — 05 Jan 2010
The cult classic animated film that proved once and for all to western audiences that animation is definitely not just for kids. The film starts out kinda boring and sleazy (the first two stories aren't that great) but it manages to turn itself into a really fun and ultra-cool sci-fi fantasy romp with plenty of homage paid to its source material (the awesome Heavy Metal comics, of course).
The animation is very dated and the film is incredibly shallow, but the whole point of the film is to just sit back and go with the ride. Good for watching with a couple of friends and some beer (or other intoxicating substances of your choice).
