I should say, right now, that this movie was made for men. But the greatness of Heavy Metal doesn't come from its copious violence/nudity/sexuality. Rather, it comes from the genuinely original set of storylines, and the way they are set up.
Also, the movie scores points for the unique animation, and brilliant soundtrack. This is easily one of my favourite films of all time, and I find it to be rather influential.
