Review of Heaven's Gate (1980) by Hannah T — 11 Dec 2007
An incomprehensible let-down from Cimino after Deerhunter. 219 minutes of un-aesthetic wallowing slowcore motion picture syrup... Pathos and melodrama going nowhere. Total waste of film. And the soundtrack is truely nauseating.
The precense of Walken does not help, and our old axe-shaped-log Kristofferson makes things even worse. It's easy to see why the movie is blamed for the collapse of new Hollywood; a pile of crap as huge as Heaven's Gate was totally defenseless towards all the dirt that was thrown at it.
.. An interesting installation, may I say.
