Review of Heaven's Gate (1980) by Mark S — 18 Mar 2012
This certainly isn't an absolute stinker, and it would have nowhere near as notorious a reputation if not for its production cost and the fact that it sunk United Artists, but it has to be said that it's FAR longer than it needed to be, and so much money shouldn't have been spent on a story like this.
There are times when the film looks beautiful, but the acting and direction is so average that you feel like the beauty is a travesty rather than a joy.
