Review of Heaven's Gate (1980) by Bradley P — 23 Jun 2013
Heaven's Gate is the definition of an ensemble cast and everyone in the film is extremely memorable and great in their respective roles. The idea of imperialism leading to conflict is the highlight of this film as it is entirely void of any romanticism.
The detail that is present in this film is evident through the patience that Cimino shows, reminiscent of the wedding scene in The Deer Hunter, the foreshadowing and character development before all hell breaks loose makes for an interesting character study. Christopher Walken is beyond amazing in this film, what he is capable of doing with just a look in several scenes exceeds many actors capabilities.
