Well directed and with good performances. The fantasy sequences are good and the clay people one especially is imaginative, funny yet creepy and dark at the same time. The opening is genuinely unsettling.
The end is almost unbearably tense and deeply unsettling even more so because jackson has taken his time with the rest of the film. The diary entries are horrible to hear as they sound so matter of fact about everything.
This feels like a genuine step forward for one of the greatest directors of all time before he made his masterpiece. It does not leave you with a nice feeling and it may be a good idea to have a comedy on standby for afterwards.
The word disturbing is used a lot for nay reason but when this ends it certainly leaves you feelin that way. Unsettling stuff. As it should be ofcourse given what its about but still I dont think I ever wanna see it again.
Why? Coz its really genuinely - unsettling stuff.
