Review of Heavenly Creatures (1994) by Pascal V — 17 Sep 2010
4- Sad, even angering account of teen infatuation turned deadly. To see a mother killed by her daughter over such childish notions is very upsetting. But this is a story that had to be told. Peter Jackson let's himself shine here, handling the strongly dramatic content with ease, and intermixing it with splendid visualizations of the girl's mostly medieval fantasies.
Melanie Linskey's performance is superb, Kate Winslet goes a bit overboard, but has star charisma, as one would know from how quickly her career shot upwards. Sarah Peirce as the tragic victim of this whole situation is also amazing, in a very natural, understated performance.
