Review of Heavenly Creatures (1994) by Pathetic L — 03 Jun 2008
Some people may be aghast to this opinion, but I think this is Peter Jackson's more masterful cinematic achievement , even more visceral and personal then Lord of the Rings and King Kong (apparently that's saying a lot).
The directing hooks me and pulls me in effortlessly with its fine chain of disturbing events. This film stayed with me for days, it actually has one brutal murder that unnerves me and I was taken aback on how it was set up. Very well crafted with excellent performances. Very kinetic camera movements. Depressing, sad aura that is very poignant for some reason.
Obsessive behavior gets a revamping...
A haunting, absorbing watch. There's just something about it that bothers me. Love it.
