Review of Heavenly Creatures (1994) by Izzy G — 04 Mar 2009
Peter jackson's first mainstream success. also kate winslet's first major starring role in a movie. this movie is not for everyone. if you're a fan of jackson's early work such as braindead or bad taste, you will be sorely misled as this has no gore, black comedy, or action as in those.
for all others, this is a movie that really takes you by surprise. it focuses on juliet hulme and pauline parker, two real life girls who grew so close that it resulted in borderline lesbianism. their bond was so strong that it resulted in murdering pauline's mother as she stood in the way of their relationship.
this is a dark dark love story that delves into both the real world and fake worlds and deals with very serious and not often discussed things. I would highly recommend it to any fans of great cinema.
