Peter Jackson almost surprisingly moved from B-Horror films right into serious drama with this film about two young girls who form a tight bond, create a number of fantasies for themselves, and eventually commit a heinous crime.
The cast is strong, especially a young Kate Winslet, in her first starring role. Probably more than anything gave Peter Jackson the credibility to move onto more serious projects, so he could eventually take the reigns of the "Lord of the Rings" Trilogy.
