Review of Heaven Is for Real (2014) by Paul M — 09 Dec 2014
A wonderful film, intelligently written and perfectly acted. Most critics wrote it off as propaganda, ignoring the even-handedness of it's treatment of spiritual questions. It leaves big questions unanswered, such as why does God not give everyone such an experience? But it is a true story after all, not a treatise.
The visualizations of the boy's experience are a bit hokey, and probably unnecessary. But a solid laugh usually arrives to cut through any heavy-handedness, such as Colton asking the angels to sing "We Will Rock You.
" I find it sad that as a culture we have become so bitter and cynical, we must dismiss any work that asserts the value of life and love, and the possibility of God.
