Review of Heaven Can Wait (1978) by Victor L — 21 Mar 2008
In the original film, he was a boxer; updating it and making him a football player actually gives his story a greater accessability, I think. Beatty is charming and Henry is funny but, with the rest of cast made of up wonderful actors, it is clear that the comic genius of the show is Dyan Cannon and the heart of the film is Julie Christie. Both were at the top of their game AND their beauty at this point and they are difficult to resist, as is the entire film.
Love Dave Grusin's bouncy score.
