Review of Heaven (1987) by Matt R — 09 Apr 2009
I did not know that this was a Tykwer film when I put it on my Netflix queue; my decision might have been different had I known. Tykwer has a way of making his plots seem random, his characters seem aloof and detached, and his pacing seem slow.
..almost drugged / dazed / dreaming. The use of color and cinematography is great, but I just didn't get into it - didn't empathize with or care about the characters. The movie ended as I expected - with an unsatisfied, ambiguous, nebulous, unresolved plot point.
This film, like most of Tykwer's post-Lola fare, comes across like the stunned, droning ringing in your ears after shooting off a pistol without ear protection.
