Review of Heathers (1989) by Rajneel S — 23 Mar 2009
Superb and infectiously funny, dark satire from the soon-to-be-producer of "Edward Scissorhands" and soon-to-be-writer of "Batman Returns" about high school life, outsiders, fitting in and finding self-worth.
Although clunky in places, this film is a cult classic for a very good reason thanks to some biting writing, memorable performances (particularly by Christian Slater who channels Jack Nicholson for most of the film) and the film's daring, pre-Columbine-Massacre, mixture of death, guns, bombs and high schools as a comedic avenue.
Dated (with special thanks to the wonderfully weird 1980's fashion), but very much worth your time and respect. Better than "Mean Girls".
