Review of Heathers (1989) by Bri L — 24 Dec 2010
Christ. This movie, every time, leaves me shaking and terrified--and yes, it's very funny. The two leads, Ryder and Slater, have great chemistry and are all-around very good (Slater in particular is riveting).
The directing is great--Waters originally wanted the script to go to Stanley Kubrick. He would have been a great choice for this movie, but not necessary as Legman easily holds his own. Heathers is also one of the most quotable movies of all time.
But the real draw is the psychology here: as foreign to the audiences of 1989 as this situation was, today it could happen. A terrifying, hilarious, dangerous movie.
