Review of Heathers (1989) by Bob V — 25 Mar 2011
Heathers reads almost like a catalogue of up-and-comers in the Eighties, with most if not all of the actors either already well-known or about to be. It is also a delicious satirical film, with flawless angsty acting by Winona (God, was she not something back in the day, no really, I mean it) and a very charming/creepy Christian Slater, with a supporting yet very memorable part for Shannen Doherty, who must have picked up some Queen Bitch tricks during filming to take along to the set of Beverly Hills 90210.
You might call it a âMean Girlsâ? avant la lettre, though the two films are world's apart in style, but then again, the Eighties were world's apart in style from just about anything. Let's keep it at: intelligent humour spliced through over-the-top situations, dark comedy and teen angst with a dash of psycho, I dare you not to enjoy it!
