Review of Heathers (1989) by Alice P — 15 May 2011
Heathers is a very daring dark comedy. It's Mean Girls meets Serial Mom and although it's not a perfect movie, you can see why it's regarded as a cult film. It has some funny moments and it's sandwiched somewhere between good and okay.
I'm not sure if the same film could be made today with school shootings being a sensitive subject. It just goes to show that making a drama on a controversy can be done, but a comedy is hard. The reason why Heathers is likable is because it's a satire on suicide and high school life.
It reminds me a bit of 2009's World's Greatest Dad. I liked that film better, but Heathers is worth viewing.
