Review of Heathers (1989) by Jared C — 28 Mar 2012
I think the first time I saw this I thought what a weird and depressing flick. But that was like 2 or so years ago, now I watch it and its actually entertaining. This was before Mean Girls and Juno, this was the film that would inspire Diablo Cody to write her great script for Juno. A black comedy mixed with many twists and turns you feel lost in the plot, but its all interesting while you just watch it. Winona Ryder is enjoyable and enduring as Veronica the out of place high school chick in the popular Heathers clique who has had enough of been a bitch and decides to take down the leader of the clique Kim Walker. When Veronica meets rebel and loner DJ played fantastically by Christian Slater, she immediately falls for him and the two kill Kim. But they forge a suicide note making it look like Kim committed suicide and soon as the whole high school hears about her fake suicide note, she becomes more popular than ever and suicide is the newest and most popular thing within the school. And all of a sudden Veronica and DJ's plan takes a whole new twisted and sinister turn. A good script, some over the top excruciating moments.
But a fun black comedy to watch.
