Review of Heathers (1989) by Eytan D — 19 Aug 2012
Following in the footsteps of John Hughes's light-hearted high school comedies of the 80's, Heathers changed the game. So many could see it as the original Mean Girls, with a bizarre and violent twist.
As dark and incorrect as the film is, you can't help but laugh at the ridiculousness of the plot. But Daniel Waters' script is filled with crack-whip dialogue and great laughs. Heathers is helped tremendously by the two leads.
Winona Ryder is perfect as Veronica and Christian Slater is a terrific high school outcast, setting him up for a career filled with "bad-ass" roles. Certainly a cult classic by today's standards, Heathers is one wickedly dark comedy that deserves to be seen.
