Review of Heat (1995) by Shawn E — 20 May 2012
An incredibly ambitious film that ends up being more than a little bloated. At nearly 3 hours, the film is way, way too long with many superfluous storylines and unnecessary characters. Not to mention the plotline was incredibly confusing and it was never entirely clear which character was which or why they were doing what they were doing.
On the plus side, that diner scene between Pacino and De Niro is just great and the movie has a spectacular shootout as well as a fabulous ending, but these things can't cover up the muddled storytelling.
I may have to watch it again with a better understanding of the unfolding events to get a clearer picture, but, for now, this review stands.
