Review of Heat (1995) by Camille L — 06 Apr 2013
There are action films and there are GREAT action films. Heat belongs or rather even supersedes the latter. Powered by a cast of the likes of Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Val Kilmer and Jon Voight this crime thriller is absolutely riveting and mindblowing.
For its duration of 2 hours and 50 mins or so it seems nothing like an overlong drama but rather grips you to the edge of the seat till the very final frame. Brilliant performances by Pacino and De Niro ensure that you get to the heart of their character and are really undecided that who is the better man out of the two.
De Niro, a methodical mastermind criminal who wants to get out and lead a peaceful life or Pacino, the cunning cop who has a disastrous personal life. The climax is literally unforgiving while you are actually waiting with a baited breath for what's to happen next and while there is no such "twist" in the film, the sheer uncertainty of what will happen will leave you with a most satisfying feeling of having watched cinema at its best.
Pure awesomeness.
