Review of Heat (1995) by Robert K — 29 Jul 2013
While the idea of a high-level detective and a master thief ever sharing coffee without guns drawn is preposterous, the several-minute scene where Pacino and De Niro's characters query one another over cups of joe ranks as one of the finest ever in any film.
The tortured depths of each man come to the surface, and there is a moment of mutual admiration and empathy. Beneath the gratuitous violence and tough-guy talk lies the film's compelling, enrapturing soul.
Heat grabs you from the apex and never lets go.
