Review of Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse (1991) by Justin A — 19 Jul 2009
Francis Ford Coppola used to be an erratic, unstoppable force full of film bliss back in the day. I had always read stories of his decent into madness during the production of "Apocalypse Now", but reading and seeing/hearing it are two very different things. He was far more mad than I could have thought. It's very frightening and amazing to know that someone can become so obsessed with their work, that it drives them completely insane.
At times Coppola was clearly over the top with the descriptions of his film about Vietnam -- sorry, "It's not a film about vietnam, it IS Vietnam", says a very calm Coppola at a press conference.
