Review of Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse (1991) by Jens T — 25 Oct 2012
Hearts of Darkness was a novel written Joseph Conrad in which Francis Ford Coppola loosely based his anti-war drama Apocalypse Now on. This documentary tells the story about the making of this film, which was all other than a walk in the park. It was many problems on the sets, Coppola often changed the script, the cast and location, it was many delays and the press even asked questions on rather this movie got finish or what. The filming took over a year, and it there where a lot of illness both psychical and psychological.
It was overall a good documentary, but all the myths about the horror of the making, and all the parodies kind of made my expectations very high. Even though it didn't live up the expectations, it's still a good documentary and also a very enlighten one. And a great insight into Francis Ford Coppola's madness and insanity. Thumbs up.
