Review of Hearts in Atlantis (2001) by Drew H — 27 Dec 2007
I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. Scott Hicks did an excellent job moving King's book onto the screen. Anthony Hopkins was excellent, even though his "trips" or spaced out moments were approached from an interesting angle.
Made him seem more derranged than like he was experiencing something abnormal or supernatural. There are scenes that just don't work, one of which is the scene where Ted (Hopkins) is telling Bobby about an old football game, in a book I could see that working, but on screen it was uber tacky and cheesy.
This movie had a good charm to it, but really didn't have too great a point. I expected Bobby to open my eyes to something that I had given up on since leaving boyhood...he didn't.
