Review of Heartless (2010) by Ahmed " — 14 Jan 2011
Another British movie that really deserves to have a look at. "Heartless" is an original breathtaking supernatural thriller that will keep you at the edge of your seat the entire movie period with an almost endless sequence of mindblowing if twists and turns. The script is one of the tightest of the year 2010; the movie offers a supernatural storyline yet it was not presented in a farfetched or a silly manner but rather a believable, thoughtful and somehow rational one. The movie investigates the human nature especially its dark side which is not always visible. It is maybe overdramatized at some bits but considering how the plot progesses that becomes forgivable. The filmmaker apparently knows what he is doing; every frame throughout the movie is chosen carefully and serves the purpose of keeping the picture as mystrious and thrilling as possible. Editing style of multipie close ups within the same frame is unique and helps immerse the audience with the characters strugles and fears. The sound track, the special effects and the lighting scheme are well used and appropriately refelects the movie`s nature as a dark twisted flick.
Strong performances all around with special recognition to Eddie Marsan whose single scene was one of the most bizzare, intriguing and somehow funniest scenes I have ever seen. Heartless is a mesmerizing, intense, and dark flick that offers genuine scares and an insightful story; certainly one of 2010 highlights.
