Review of Heartless (2010) by Adam E — 30 May 2011
Entertaining art house style horror movie with a good story but it all never quite gells right. The acting is great throughout and jim strurgess does a good job of portraying the agony and innonence he has and how he copes with his disfigurment and the rest of the cast hold it together to.
Makes you wonder throughout how much of what you are watching is real, in Jamies head or inbetween the 2. Looking back I suppose there are lots of ways to look at what is happening to him (tricky to mention as it will spoil it for anyone who has not seen it) the viewer makes there own mind up about it in the end.
However the final scene seems a bit like a cop out to me and did not really seem like a great conclusion to the characters story arc. Also the love affair between jamie and the delivery lady never has time to gell together and feels slightly forced as does his daughter joining him.
Some of the other scenes run abit slow to, maybe to build up the tension but it tends to slow the drama down to much. Still an interesting film to watch but once viewed it will be tricky to sit down and watch again.
