Review of Heartburn (1986) by Susan F — 07 Jan 2019
I love this movie. It shows how even very smart and capable women deny the signs of a crumbling relationship and trust men who are simply not worthy of their trust. And yet the main character cannot help but see humor admidst the pain and chaos of selfish betrayal that comes when she is most vulnerable, pregnant and mother to a toddler. Seeing Meryl Streepâ(TM)s character waddle in late pregnancy as she takes back the reigns of her life is both comical and deeply touching. This is a womanâ(TM)s movie and there is nothing wrong with that.
That said, Jack Nicholsonâ(TM)s deeply flawed husband is perfectly played, appealing and repellent.
