Review of Heartbreak Ridge (1986) by Lorna R — 09 Feb 2008
Clint Eastwood + Humor + Good old-fashioned flag waving=Great Movie.
A story about a gung-ho gunnery seargent at the end of his career. From an action standpoint-the Gunny must train raw and unlikely recruits to survive battle. Their mettle is tested in Grenada. From a plot standpoint- Gunny is about to enter mandatory retirement and he is in a state of life review that requires a lot more analyis than this decisive man of action is used to. He is looking back at the choices he made during his career and marriage, making decisions about the legacy he wants to leave, and facing questions and fears about his future without the Core.
