Review of Heartbreak Ridge (1955) by Daniel B — 30 Jul 2007
Every time I watch this film, I keep wanting to join the Army. Thankfully that feeling passes, but this film still ranks highly.
As with most films that I appreciate, Heartbreak Ridge is character-driven and Eastwood's character "Gunny" has many sides to him.
One side is trying to understand women in one of the few ways he knows how (e.g. by reading womens magazines) to try and fix his broken down relationship. Another side is Gunny's desire for one last victory and retiring to a quieter life.
So if you wish to see a military-based film that is more about the characters and their stories rather than the battles, then this is for you.
