Review of Heartbreak Ridge (1955) by Robert W — 04 Jul 2009
1983: Gunnery Sgt. Tom Highway faces his last stint in a long career as a Marine. The hard drinking, tough as nails highway has his work cut out for him trying to turn his new platoon full of misfits and screw ups into Marines well fending off a bueracratic Major who has it in for him. If thats not enough Tom's also trying to get back with his ex-wife, who can give as good as Highway...all this is destined to come to a head with the Invaision of Grenada.
Great Eastwood vehicle. Age hasn't softened the man and it shows, he just keeps getting meanier. Other standouts include Everett McGills asshole Major Powers and Marsha Mason as Highways ex. Eastwood keeps things entertaining though he does lose some steam when the Marines get to Grenada.
