Review of Heart of Glass (1976) by Vesa K — 30 Oct 2008
Werner Herzog's experimental movie in which the whole cast was under a state of hypnosis. In times I didn't understand much of the movie as whole but there seems to be at least two different angle to approach the film: firstly Heart of Glass tells a kosmogonical story of industrialisation and the swansong of craftship.
Secondly it is about masshypnosis that can lead a community to persecute the individuals who differ a way or another from "normal". The person who seems to gather these two storylines is a fine zarathustrian type of wise of the mountain or a lonely prophet who walks around and longs into the woods.
I did like a movie very much; it is full of unique poetry only Herzog can write.
