Review of Heart and Souls (1993) by Fabio C — 20 Sep 2007
Heart and Souls was a comedy I loved when I was a kid (the movie was not released theatrically in Italy, it went straight to video, and I remember I discovered it going to the video store when I was 12), about 4 people who die in a bus accident and become guardian angels of a newborn, following him for his whole childhood, then going away to come back when he becomes an adult businessman.
The movie has an impressive cast (Robert Downey Jr., Charles Grodin, Tom Sizemore, Kyra Sedgwick, Alfre Woodard and Elizabeth Shue) and it belongs to that category I call "feel good movies", those flicks with a general upbeat mood even when sad things happen on the screen.
Unfortunately, re-watching it after several years made me notice a few glitches, script and directing-related, I couldn't see when I was a kid. I still enjoyed it a lot, because it allowed me to remember my childhood, but I can't consider it as good as I thought it was anymore.
