Review of Headshot (2016) by James L — 20 Jul 2017
Headshot is directed by the Mo Brothers, and it stars Iko Uwais, Chelsea Islan, and Sunny Pang in an Indonesian action film about a man that was laying on the beach with amnesia, and so when the doctor takes care of him, the people that were after the guy, went after the doctor so that he'll come to them.
After watching Killers, I was curious to see what they made next, and knowing the fact that Timo Tjahjanto, who also the co-director, the film in 2 and a half weeks is impressive, but also worrisome as it can be rushed as the result of the film.
Luckily it's not as I had a great time with this, but it isn't perfect however. The acting is really good from their expressions, and when they do speak English, it's well-acted for it, although even if I like it when they did that in Killers, the problem starts to arise for both of those films, and that is the purpose of the multi-language aspect because there's no reason to do that other then they just felt like it.
The action scenes are great in this, which I know it's going to be compared to The Raid films as it has Iko Uwais in both of them as he is the action coordinator, and in this, it's great, but there were some action decisions that were really dumb whether it be not shooting them when there's a chance for it, or using a gun at the last second before all the fighting scenes came and with.
Which is weird because at first, the fight scenes were good, but typically something that you see in every action movie, but when the movie progresses, that's when it starts being like The Raid films.
The villain is intimidating, and so are his henchmen, giving some backstories on them. I like the chemistry between the two leads, and I got to know a bit about the characters. The plot does get repetitive in the second half, but it didn't detract the film as Headshot is a great movie that I thought it was a bit better than Killers.
