Review of He Was a Quiet Man (2007) by Ericka — 09 Oct 2008
Wow, talk about over the rainbow...more like under it; like my myspace page (haha). Anyway, I just saw this movie today, because yesterday I saw The Confessor (not a 5 star movie, more like 2 stars, but I must have a hang-up on Slater (b/c how many reviews have I written on different movies he's been in? LOL)Still, besides the fact that this movie does have him in it.
It's humor is well-placed, if not odd, and I feel that this film does capture disgruntled people well. Yes, people do still act like this, both the crazy way, and even the cliched people at his work (I know people very like this).
I often feel enclosed in a little box, although I never have fish talking to me thankfully. Which, by the way was awesome...I mean, yeah it would suck having a fish telling you what to do, but it was still funny.
This movie has more symbolism than a barrel full of monkeys. It's true, I love the little idiosyncratic things, like when Bob and Vanessa kiss her heart monitor rose, or the bullet...how he finds it again in the end, it reminded me of the line:"Never plant a gun in the first scene unless you intend to use it in the last" haha, perfect, or bullet in this case.
Yes, I was saddened he died at the end, but even more sad that he let his delusions get the better of him, when he was so close to getting everything he wanted; a fairly stable life. Talk about tragedy.
This film was so neat, but yes a first viewing is harsh to the brain, but watch it again and maybe you'll pick up on some extra stuff.
