Review of He Got Game (1998) by Gary C — 28 Jun 2009
If more directors loved what they made films about as much as Spike Lee loves basketball, I feel like a lot more movies would be this great. The best thing he did for this movie was get Ray Allen to play one of the two main roles.
I mean, how brilliant can you get? If you want to get someone who loves the game of basketball as much as you do, look no further than a professional basketball player. Denzel is great, of course, but maybe a love for the subject matter gives you the ability to do great things, and Allen really does shine in this.
Even for people who don't care much about basketball, this movie is crafted with so much love that you'd be a fool not to watch it.
